Airport sees massive half-term getaway

Almost 500,000 people departed from Gatwick Airport during the first weekend of the half-term holidays, according to new figures.

The facility stated that it experienced a busy period between Friday 19th and Monday 22nd October due to families going abroad for the school break.

Traditional holiday destinations were found to have remained the most popular areas, with Malaga in Spain attracting the bulk of the passengers.

In addition, Alicante, the Canary Islands and Palma de Mallorca attracted lots of visitors during the school holidays.

The figures will be positive reading for overseas property investors in Spain, as they display its continued popularity as a holiday resort.

However, the country was found to be experiencing strong competition from other markets as well, such as Portugal and Turkey.

This could potentially make these markets attractive investment opportunities as well.

Earlier this week, Spain's tourism ministry showed that during September, 6.1 million holidaymakers arrived in the country.
