Albania 'confident of joining Nato'

Albania is hopeful of achieving membership of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato), it has been reported by IPS.

The move could boost the country's economy and continue its transition away from its former status as a communist nation, making it more attractive to property investment professionals.

Albanian parliament speaker Jozefina Topalli revealed to the IPS news agency that the government is "optimistic" that the state will be invited to join.

"Albania has played a decisive and moderating role during these years in Macedonia and Kosovo, and this has been appreciated," said the speaker.

"Without our influence the region could not live with peace and stability."

She added that many "prestigious and serious investors" are interested in the country, with its stable economy and sustainable growth.

Albania offers a wealth of options to the investment sector, with mountainous terrain and Mediterranean beaches both on offer.
