Albania to apply for EU membership

An Albanian official has revealed that the country could soon be part of the European Union (EU).

Jozefina Topalli, speaker of the Albanian parliament, stated that it is planning to submit its bid to join the international body very soon, reports BalkanInsight.com.

Speaking at a meeting between prospective member states and the European Parliament, Mr Topalli said he hopes this will pave the way for its accession in the next few years.

He commented: "I hope that in the first half of the next decade we will be members of the EU community."

This could be a positive development for owners of property in Albania, as joining the EU could trigger further growth in the housing market.

According to property consultancy Colliers International, the country already has an expanding market which is seeing continued improvement.

As a result, people who enter the market early could potentially achieve considerable returns.
