Algarve boosted by new golf resort
The opening of a major new golf complex in the Algarve is set to attract more holidaymakers and property buyers to Portugal.
Owned by the Oceanico Group, the Amendoeira Golf Resort contains two championship courses, one of which was designed by 2008 European Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo.
A recent launch event for the 640-acre resort was attended by top golfers such as Lee Westwood and Darren Clarke, as well as former Liverpool footballer John Aldridge.
Members' president Christy O'Connor Senior described the facilities at Amendoeira as "better than anything I've ever seen".
He added: "[The] course is truly beautiful - the water, lush vegetation, the whole magnificence of this valley of beauty, which is the best way I can describe it
This will become a golfing landmark."
Last month, Aldridge hosted a charity golf event at another venue in the Algarve, raising 30,000 euros for charities in England, Ireland and Portugal.
The European Tour recently described Portugal as an "international destination of choice for golf fans and holidaymakers".
