Andalusia 'popular with holidaymakers'

The Spanish province of Andalusia is attracting growing interest among holidaymakers, according to an official.

Gaspar Zarrias, vice president of the autonomous region, said that the number of tourists it had seen this year was already ahead of 2006's overall total, reports the Indo-Asian News Service.

He added that 4 out of every 10 visitors were people who been to the area before, which he said proved that it had "something special" to offer visitors.

Mr Zarrias commented: "Nowhere else in the world can you drive in 2 and a half hours from perpetually snow-clad mountains to wide beaches, to vast biosphere reserves and to deserts of volcanic ash."

The popularity of the region among holidaymakers could prove to be an attractive quality to overseas property investors.

Spanish tourist authorities recently announced that they were to collaborate with their counterparts in Portugal in a joint-publicity campaign in order to attract more holidaymakers to both countries.
