ATS choice of Dubrovnik signals Croatia's resurgence

The American Tourism Society (ATS) has chosen to hold an international tourism conference in Croatia for the second time in the past year.

This year's April's Spring Conference will run from 15th to 20th and will be hosted by the Croatia National Tourist Board in Dubrovnik.

Robert Haru Fisher, of the ATS explained that the region was: "A widely recognised 'hot destination' for 2006".

This decision follows announcements that the Croatian government intends to invest 13.6 billion kuna into local tourism by 2009, reported by news site www.Javno.com.

And during the first 11 months of last year, Croatia saw a 9% increase in tourist numbers, the news site claimed.

By selecting Dubrovnik as the site for this year's spring conference, the ATS will be building on previous tourism success and reinforcing Croatia as an investment hotspot for 2007.

A panel of tour operators will begin the conference proceedings, before ATS delegates meet Croatian tourism professionals in a dedicated networking session, reported www.TravelDailyNews.com

In addition, Croatian delegates will be invited to attend workshops on cultivating the emerging cultural and special interest travel market and using the internet to promote tourism.
