BA announces flights to Rio

British Airways (BA) has announced that it is to begin offering non-stop flights to the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

The new service will be launched from Heathrow Airport next winter and will be up to two hours quicker than existing routes to Brazil, as it will not go via Sao Paulo.

Commenting on the flights, BA stated that they were being introduced in response to growing demand from both business and leisure travellers.

Robert Boyle, commercial director at the airline, said: "South America is a growing market for us as demand for business and leisure travel increases."

He added that although Rio de Janeiro had traditionally been a leisure destination, a growing number of people were travelling there on business trips.

This means that rental accommodation in the city will be in extra demand among both holidaymakers and those who are travelling for work-related reasons.

Brazil was recently recommended to overseas property investors by the SaveBorrowSpend website, which said its undeveloped coastlines and rising house prices made it a good option for prospective buyers to consider.
