Beautiful landscape of Italy explored

A writer visiting Italy has discussed the beautiful landscape available to property owners in the country.

The Guardian's Bob Maddams recently took a holiday in the Marche region of Italy, where he was captivated by scenes of rural beauty and an abundance of delicious food and drink.

Speaking to an English resident, who left his life in London to convert one of the area's ruined farmhouses into holiday flats, the writer was told it was the views which first inspired the expatriate to leave his home country behind.

"Next morning I saw why. I stepped out of my flat and straight into a landscape by a Renaissance painter," Mr Maddams explained.

The correspondent compared the Marche region to Tuscany, describing it as "more rural and in its own way just as beautiful" as the better-known area, as well as being less expensive for property owners.

Recent research from the Italian Touring Club Study Centre found that Italy contains two of the best three ski resorts in Europe, snowbrainer.co.uk reported.
