Birmingham Airport handles extra passengers
A UK airport has revealed that the number of people passing through its terminals has gone up this year.
Birmingham International Airport (BIA) stated that it handled 730,307 passengers last month - 8.4% more than during March 2007.
Spain was found to be a particularly popular destination, with passenger numbers on flights to Barcelona, Murcia, Alicante and Almeria all going up this year.
However, BIA also observed a 9.7% increase in the amount of people heading for non-EU members, such as destinations in Eastern Europe and Africa.
Commenting on the increase, BIA's Peter Vella said: "It is the second straight month of record-breaking passenger figures for the airport."
He added that this is "great news" for the facility, as it is aiming to push annual passenger numbers above the 10 million mark this year.
This comes after Eurostar reported an increase in the number of people using its services to mainland Europe.
