The Tourism Council has stated that the popularity of the Black Sea resort of Sozopol in Bulgaria has increased.

Year-on-year figures for the first half of 2007 suggested that there has been a 12% rise in popularity in tourism to the area, reports the Sofia Echo.

Moreover, 90% of Sozopol's bed supply is occupied already, the publication stated.

A number of people from various countries such as Russia, Poland and Hungary visited the resort in the past year, the findings also said.

But the largest number of travellers came from the UK and Scandinavian areas, it said. Additionally, the percentage of those visiting from Slovakia saw a rise.

Also, Tour operators said that they expect to see more tourists in September rather than June in 2007.
