Booking holidays 'more important than getting a good mortgage'
British consumers spend longer planning their holiday than other financial matters, new figures have revealed.
Research by Fool.co.uk showed that more than one in three people in the UK spend at least ten hours planning their ideal trip abroad.
Only one in five were found to spend this long selecting their mortgage, while choosing a credit card, personal loan and insurance policy was also found to take less time.
Commenting on the findings, Fool.co.uk's head of personal finance David Kuo, said: "Who can blame people for wanting to spend more time planning their holiday than pouring over financial products?"
However, he stated that spending more time considering less exciting issues such as mortgages could ultimately save people money.
This, he added, meant that they could possibly be able to afford holidays that had previously been too expensive for them.
The research follows a surge in the number of people booking foreign holidays after the Christmas break.
Last Monday was dubbed "Holiday Day" by the Association of British Travel Agents in anticipation of the rush.
