Boxer speaks of property investments

A leading British boxing star has spoken of his growing interest in buying property in other countries.

Joe Calzaghe, holder of the WBO super middleweight champion for more than a decade, has built up a portfolio of residences across the world, covering places such as Italy, Turkey and the UK.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, he said he hopes the properties will eventually help to fund his retirement, as he plans to hang up his boxing gloves later this year.

In addition, he stated that he intends to build up his portfolio even further following the end of his sporting career.

Calzaghe commented: "I find property investment fascinating.

"It's good to have other interests, but, as a boxer, you have to live boxing. It's 100% dedication."

He added that he is keen to invest in growing foreign markets because he missed the property boom in the UK.

As well as picking up numerous boxing accolades, Calzaghe also collected the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award in 2007.
