Brazil aims to boost tourism sector
The Brazilian government has launched a new initiative designed to attract foreign leisure travellers.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has said he wants more people to visit major hotspots such as Rio de Janeiro.
This, he stated, would help shore up the city's bid to host the Olympic Games in 2016, as it would generate extra revenue.
President Lula da Silva added the "Brazil Sensational" scheme is also part of a wider plan to raise the profile of the South American country.
He commented: "Brazil will be a key tourist destination in the world within the next 10 to 15 years."
The president added that boosting the tourism sector is one of the Brazilian government's main priorities.
According to figures cited by Gazeta Mercantil, holidaymakers spent £268 million in Brazil last month.
This is 15.83% up on the amount recorded during the same period of the previous year.
