Brazil set to attract extra visitors

An aviation official has urged authorities in Brazil to prepare for an influx of extra visitors in six years time.

The South American nation will be staging the football World Cup for the second time in 2014, following its hosting of the event in 1950.

Adalberto Febeliano, executive vice president of the Brazilian Association of General Aviation, believes this will result in a significant increase in the number of incoming arrivals, reports AAP.

Indeed, he expects monthly passenger numbers at the country's airports to double to about 8 million.

This has prompted him to call on aviation authorities in the country to make sure that its facilities are able to handle this greater capacity.

Mr Febeliano commented: "We need to modernise our airports and build new airports."

Although Brazil has only staged the World Cup once before, it is the most successful participant in the competition, as it has won the trophy an unprecedented 5 times.
