Brazil's strong economic growth continues

Brazil's economic success shows no signs of any reversal after the government published its latest growth figures.

Gross domestic product increased by 4.3% during the first quarter of 2007 compared to the same period last year, with the economy still on track to meet the government target of 4.5% by the end of the year.

The news has been welcomed by government officials and analysts, who describe the recent statistics as positive and a further reflection of the sustained growth Brazil has achieved in recent years.

Guido Mantega, finance minister for Brazil, was quoted by Bloomberg as saying: "I am satisfied with the figure because it shows the economy is expanding robustly and being accompanied by growth in the domestic market and investments."

One analyst, Zeina Latif, an economist with ABN Amro, said the economic growth displayed by Brazil has been "favourable", with no reason to suspect that the economy will soon begin decelerating.

Brazil's sustained economic growth has seen employment figures rise, which is likely to help drive the property market and attract larger numbers of foreign investors.
