British buyers 'dominate French property market'
The majority of foreign property buyers in France hail from the UK, new research has found.
A study by the Notaires de France showed that almost two-thirds of properties owned by people from abroad had been purchased by Britons.
Commenting on the findings, spokesperson Luc Bestard said that people were investing for different reasons, as some were retirees who wanted the property for personal use, while others were buying a house to let.
Speaking to This French Life, he added: "It is to be noted that approximately one-third of British buyers purchase property as a main home or intend to permanently settle in France in the short-term."
Figures showed that people from the UK were especially willing to pay more than the national average for a residence in the country.
Whereas a typical property could be on the market for about £154,681, Britons were said to be prepared to spend close to £159,172.
The popularity of the country may increase even further later this month after Eurostar launches its new high-speed rail link between St Pancras and Paris.
