British expat speaks highly of Morocco

Morocco has been praised by a British expatriate who has lived there for the past nine years.

Property consultant Tim Buxton moved from the Loire Valley in France to Marrakesh back in 1999 in search of more exotic surroundings.

He told the Times that although his previous home had been "idyllic", Morocco offered a rich and unpredictable lifestyle.

Speaking to the newspaper, he commented: "Mostly, I like the Marrakeshis, who have a cockney-style sense of humour, but within an Arabic context."

Mr Buxton added that local authorities were currently engaged in improving and developing the infrastructure across the region.

For example, he said a new motorway between the city and coastal areas was currently being created.

The north African country has recently emerged as a highly popular tourist destination, particularly among people from various European countries.

Tourism minister Mohamed Boussaid recently revealed that Morocco attracted more than 7 million foreign visitors last year.
