British holidaymakers 'looking to Turkey'
A significant increase in the number of tourists heading to Turkey has been observed in 2009.
Buy-to-let property investors may be benefiting from the growth, as the Daily Mail noted that one family has seen demand rise for their home.
Libby Garside told the news source that she, her husband and their daughters use their villa in Kalkan for regular holidays and rent it out at other times.
And the pound's weakness against the euro was cited as one of the reasons for Brits to be choosing the destination, with Mrs Garside remarking: "More consumers seem to be looking to Turkey as a holiday destination due to rising costs in more traditional European resorts and also because of the terrible
exchange rate."
The country was recently highlighted as being popular for Christmas shopping by Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, as he explained that Istanbul in particular offers distinctive, quality products.
