Britons flock to Iberian Peninsula

Consumers in the UK are set to flock to countries such as Spain and Portugal during the bank holiday weekend, it has been revealed.

According to low-cost airline easyJet, the Iberian Peninsula is set to be a major hotspot of activity for British tourists.

The Spanish resorts of Alicante and Malaga were highlighted as two of the most popular destinations, along with the city of Barcelona.

Meanwhile, many were said to be preparing to fly out to Portugal and to Faro in particular.

This has been partially attributed to the weather, as cold, grey and wet conditions have been forecast in the UK for the next few days.

Marianne West, PR executive at easyJet commented: "It's impossible to rely on the great British weather and, let's face it, sunshine and relaxation is far more appealing than DIY."

She added that the airline is expecting to transport more than 450,000 people over the May bank holiday period.

This comes just over a week after easyJet began operating a direct service between Faro and Glasgow Airport.
