Britons 'want to retire abroad'
More than one in three Britons would like to spend their retirement overseas, according to a new study.
Research by Scottish Widows revealed that most of these people were higher rate taxpayers who earned more than £40,000 a year.
The desire to move overseas was found to be particularly acute in the British capital, as 60 per cent of Londoners said they were "likely or very likely" to relocate overseas.
Commenting on the findings, Mike Hoban of Scottish Widows stated that if people were planning to move abroad, they had to make sure their finances were in order first.
He said: "Whatever your age, the need to plan your retirement and to understand the options available to you becomes increasingly important."
This comes after the News of the World claimed it had seen government figures showing that 250,000 people from the UK left the country in 2007.
