Brits 'buy overseas property for better weather'
The chance to enjoy warm weather and experience a better quality of life is driving foreign property purchases in the UK, a new survey has revealed.
According to Alliance & Leicester, 57% of British people with homes abroad rated the climate as the main reason for making the purchase, while 56% praised the improved quality of life associated with their property.
Spain was revealed to contain a particularly high percentage of satisfied overseas property owners, with 92% agreeing that the weather was better than in the UK.
In addition, 85% appreciated the slower pace of life on offer in Spain, while the same number said they felt safer in Spanish property than they did at home.
Last week, property agent Ken Walker told the Liverpool Echo that "no other country can quite compete" with Spain in terms of its continuing appeal to British property buyers.
He said the country has a "long-standing reputation" as an attractive destination for both property investors and lifestyle buyers.
