Brits reminded to pay taxes

Property owners in the Spanish area of Alicante have been reminded that they are now due to pay council taxes.

The Spanish Municipal Register states that a number of areas in the Alicante province are popular with foreign property owners, reports Homes Worldwide.

Now, the publication is urging people to pay the taxes along with Spanish residents in order to avoid any extra interest.

Bills for the period between March 1st and May 4th have to be paid by October 5th, it added.

Such property tax can be paid at a number of banks listed on the back of the bill, it said, or alternatively by direct debit.

Other taxes due are those for vehicles and rubbish collection.

Areas with the biggest percentage of foreigners include Calpe, Teulada and Rojales, according to Homes Worldwide.

Recent research carried out by Insure4Retirement.co.uk suggested that a high number of over-50s wish to retire to Spain.
