Budget airline launches daily services between Gatwick and Tuscany

Budget airline easyJet has launched a new service between London Gatwick and Pisa - a city described by the company as a "starting point for exploring the regions of Tuscany and Florence".

With one-way ticket prices costing from £24.99, easyJet said that demand for the service has been strong, with many travellers wishing to visit the array of "beautiful, historical monuments and stunning architecture", including the famous Leaning Tower.

In addition, the airline revealed that it hopes to carry more than 100,000 passengers on the route over the first 12 months.

Paul Cable, UK market manager, remarked: "Italy is fast becoming one of the favourite European destinations for Brits, the addition of Pisa and Palermo later this summer means easyJet will operate to a choice of 10 Italian airports from across the UK, seven of which are served from Gatwick."

He concluded by saying that the new service would encourage visitors to enjoy the "fantastic Italian countryside, historic cities, cultural centres and experience the wonderful food".

Recently, foreign exchange firm HiFX revealed that enquiries from prospective investors about Italy remained at the same level between March and February.
