Budget airline launches new Spanish flights

Low-cost airline easyJet has started operating its new service between north-east England and Murcia.

The budget carrier's route from Newcastle to the Spanish city will operate three times a week and is expected to carry 41,000 people over the next year.

This represents a significant boost to the accessibility of Spain for consumers in the north-east of England.

Furthermore, the improved connectivity could potentially enhance the appeal of Murcia to property investors and second home buyers.

Commenting on the move, Carly Brear of easyJet said: "Murcia is already a popular destination from other easyJet bases in the UK and now travellers from the north-east can take advantage of one of the most popular destinations on the east coast of Spain."

She added that demand for direct flights between Newcastle and sunshine destinations overseas has been very strong.

This comes after easyJet revealed that it is currently in the process of integrating GB Airways' services into its network.

The low-cost carrier purchased its smaller counterpart last year and is preparing to take over its existing routes, including flights to places such as Spain, Greece and Cyprus.
