Bulgaria attracts more visitors

The number of people choosing to visit Bulgaria has gone up this year, new figures have shown.

According to the country's State Agency on Tourism, more than 4.5 million foreign nationals arrived in the country during the first 9 months of 2007, reports the Sofia Echo.

This is 7.4% more than during the same period of the previous year.

Figures from the organisation also showed that almost three-quarters of visiting holidaymakers - approximately 3.3 million - came from countries in the European Union.

The findings are likely to be welcomed by foreign property buyers who have invested in rental accommodation aimed at the tourist market.

Bulgaria joined the EU earlier this year and has become a hotspot for overseas investors, partly because of its growing popularity as a holiday destination.

Investors were recently advised by Loraine Pinel of fund management firm Lewis Charles Sofia Property Fund to consider buying in popular tourist areas.

Speaking to the Telegraph, she said that major holiday resorts offered good prospects for rental investors due to the steady stream of visitors.
