Bulgaria invests in golfing facilities

Bulgaria is aiming to boost its appeal to holidaymakers and overseas property buyers by developing golf courses.

According to a report by AFP, the government believes that creating facilities for fans of the sport may attract more affluent visitors from other countries.

One investor, David Newman, told the news provider that Bulgaria could be favourably compared with some of the world's most popular golfing locations.

Specifically, he said Bulgaria is similar to how Spain's Costa del Sol was about 15 years ago.

He commented: "Bulgaria is now what Spain was back then - golf in Bulgaria can become a big tourist attraction."

Mr Newman is currently working on a golf course in the Kableshkovo region, an area he described as a "fantastic location".

He said it is ideal for foreign golf fans as it is in a pleasant location along the coast and easy to reach due to its proximity to an international airport.

According to the Dnevnik Daily, the complex in Kableshkovo will also include leisure facilities such as swimming pools, tennis courts and a casino.
