Bulgaria 'offers cheaper cost of living'

British people have been advised that they can enjoy a lower cost of living if they relocate to Bulgaria.

The Metro newspaper said the eastern European nation was one of the cheapest countries in the continent, especially in terms of property.

For example, the publication stated that a two-bedroom flat in the middle of capital city Sofia could be acquired for about £22,000.

Other cost savings were also highlighted, as expenses such as meals in restaurants, alcoholic beverages and groceries were all said to be cheaper than in Britain.

The Metro also reported on a recent court ruling which resulted in authorities being forced to pay unemployed EU nationals the same rate of benefits they would get in their home country.

This means that while Britons who are out of work could get £230 a month - £90 more than the average monthly wage in Bulgaria.

Earlier this month, UK newspaper the Independent stated that up to 40,000 British investors now own property in the country.
