Bulgaria offers low living costs
Bulgaria offers some of the lowest living costs in the whole of Europe, new research has revealed.
A study by Teletext Holidays found that the cost of food and drink in the eastern European country is much cheaper than in places such as Spain, France and Italy.
For example, a pint of beer was said to cost just 49p on average, while a 3-course meal can be purchased for just £7.
This compares with £1.56 and £17.50 respectively in Spain.
The findings could account for Bulgaria's current popularity among holidaymakers and overseas property buyers, as some may see it as offering better value than many other countries.
Commenting on the findings, Ash Makkar of Teletext Holidays said interest in less-established markets has grown significantly in the last few years.
He observed: "People are becoming more adventurous when it comes to booking a trip abroad."
According to the Global Property Guide, the eastern European country saw the biggest increase in house prices during 2007, when compared with the previous year.
