Cheap flights 'will attract visitors all year round'
Southern Portugal is likely to see an increase in visitor numbers from the UK in the coming months due to the ready availability of cheap flights, a local tourism official has predicted.
The Algarve region is already a popular destination for Britons, with its combination of golf courses and beaches seemingly appealing to second home owners and people retiring overseas.
Those who own rental property in the area could soon benefit from an influx of holidaymakers following budget airline Ryanair's decision to extend its services to Faro from the UK to include flights from East Midlands, Glasgow and Liverpool.
Algarve Promotion Bureau's president Antonio Pina said the new routes would help the region to become a year-round tourism hotspot.
"We are positive that these routes will not only draw in crowds for the summer period, but highlight the appeal of the region during the non summer months," said Mr Pina.
