Construction 'sees further Romanian boom'

The construction boom looks set to be good news for the Romanian economy, according to one expert.

Expectations in the industry will continue to be exceeded, stated Ion Ghizdeanu, chairman of the National Forecast commission, reported by zf.ro.

The results will bear fruit following hard times in the country, with the summer drought expected to cost around 1% of the gross domestic product (GDP), Mr Ghizdeanu said.

Moreover, the construction industry is set to exceed the agricultural one in terms of contribution made to the GDP, the paper reported.

Mr Ghizdeanu said that he is pleased with the rise in construction activity.

"Although agriculture is sure to suffer losses, they can be offset by higher than expected increases from several industries, in particular constructions," he commented to zf.ro.

In related news that may be of interest to property investors, Plaza Developments recently stated that it is to begin a new £10.7 million retail development in the country.
