Consumer confidence up in Argentina

Consumer confidence in Argentina is up for the first time in two months, according to the latest figures.

The consumer confidence index from the country's Torcuato di Tella University found that on average the number was up by 3.7% on the previous month. This represents a 3.5% increase on the year.

Areas around the capital Buenos Aires showed the largest increase at 7.7%. However the city itself decreased by 2.9%.

Those living on a low income presented the highest growth in consumer confidence at 2.5%, whereas higher earners showed a minimal change of just 0.3%.

Previous months had seen a decrease in consumer confidence. In September the index fell by 1.6%. This fell further to 2.5% in October, showing that November's results are starting to suggest a shift in the population's attitudes.

Argentina's economy has recently been showing signs of recovery suggesting that the country is providing increasing opportunities for investment.

Last week, analysts polled by the Dow Jones predicted a rise in the consumer price index over the full year.
