Consumers 'will be paying more abroad'
Leisure travellers from the UK will have to pay higher overseas if they jet abroad during the upcoming school holidays, new figures have shown.
According to Abbey Credit Cards, parents who go away with their children over the half-term break are looking at premiums of up to 80 per cent.
This is because the pound has fallen to an all-time low against the euro, which is used in many popular tourist destinations including Italy, Portugal and Cyprus.
However, the organisation stated that holidaymakers can still find reasonable costs in Spain, as this offers some of the best value breaks in Europe.
Callum Gibson, head of Abbey Credit Cards, commented: "For many families money is tighter than ever this year, so every penny counts."
He added that consumers could also reduce the cost of travelling abroad by booking in advance.
Earlier this week, TUI Travel revealed that the recent economic slowdown in the UK is not putting British consumers off travelling abroad.
According to the firm, the number of summer holiday bookings in the last 6 weeks is 8% up on this time last year.
