Contracts for road building 'to be awarded'
Fund executive director Vesselin Georgiev has said that the National Road Infrastructure Fund is to launch a tender for new road construction in Bulgaria.
Under the plans, 500km of roads are set to be built, in a project believed to be worth 270 million leva (£93 million), reports the Sofia Echo.
Such roads would be second and third class, the publication stated, with successful bidders being awarded in October, it added. Of these, 90% already have permits allowing construction to begin.
It is around this time that the European commission will approve the development programme that will grant the money for the contracts.
Additionally, other construction projects in Sandanski and Dupnitsa are likely to go ahead in October. Contracts for these highways are set to be awarded nearer to the start of next year.
Whizz Air recently announced that it is to continue low-cost flights between Bulgaria and London into the winter.
