Cruise holidays 'becoming more popular'

Britain has the fastest growing cruise market in Europe, as cruise bookings increased by 12% during 2006.

The new report, released by the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA), state that 1.2 million British people cruised in 2006.

And the market is set to grow as the PSA predicts that 1.5 million will book a place on a cruise ship in 2008.

Fly-cruises also saw a 13% jump in popularity last year, as people take a short holiday at the beginning and end of their cruise.

Holiday properties in these cruise ports are much sought after, as holidaymakers seek a base to explore the surrounding shore before they join their cruise holiday.

The Mediterranean is the most popular place for a cruise, with around 40% of holidaymakers choosing this destination.

Bill Gibbons, director of the PSA, said: "Last year proved strong for the UK cruise industry, but next year is poised to be even better, with fantastic growth coming from the launch of twelve new or refurbished ships."

Cruise market expansion will provide many investment opportunities for those who invest in pre and post cruise holiday properties.
