Cyprus 'appeals to retirees'
Cyprus has become a highly popular destination for people wishing to retire abroad, according to a media report.
Gulf Weekly stated that island was attractive to different groups of people, such as holidaymakers and overseas property investors.
However, the publication stated that factors such as the good scenery, weather and beaches were making it very appealing to older people who wanted to spend their retirement years overseas.
The island was described as one of the most picturesque places in the world, as well as easily accessible location.
In addition, it was said to be popular with overseas investors because of its relatively cheap property prices.
Gulf Weekly stated that although demand for property in Cyprus was "spiralling", the market still offered good value.
Furthermore, houses were said to be cheaper than comparable buildings in locations such as Spain and France.
Cyprus became a full member of the European Union in 2004 and is set to join the euro in January.
