Cyprus 'attracting more Britons'

Cyprus is becoming an increasingly popular market with British holidaymakers, new figures have shown.

The Financial Mirror reports that during the last year, Britons accounted for at least half of all tourists visiting the island.

Citing official figures, the news provider said that in September 2007, the overall number of visitors was 6.4% higher than during the previous year.

This was driven by a surge in the amount of people coming from countries such as the UK, Russia, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates.

Statistics showed that during the year to September 2007, the number of British holidaymakers rose by 4.7% to 178,664.

This could prove to be a boost to the country's appeal to overseas property investors, as many may be keen to cash in on the growing tourist trade.

UK newspaper the Times recently predicted that Cyprus would soon become a more attractive destination to foreign buyers due to its forthcoming entry into the euro.
