Cyprus 'could attract more golfers'

Cyprus could become an increasingly popular destination for golf fans, a former professional has predicted.

Tony Jacklin, winner of competitions such as the US Open in 1970, told the Cyprus Mail that the island would be a centre of activity for golfers due to the introduction of new facilities.

"My feeling is that there will be a lot of golf," he commented.

"It's an ideal place - it will be a Mecca for golfers in ten years, maybe less than that."

The former golf star is currently involved in designing two new courses in Cyprus, which are intended to be used by both professional golfers and amateur players of the game.

Since the island is already furnished with three established golf courses - the Aphrodite Hills, the Secret Valley and Tsada - it could be a viable investment option for golf-loving property buyers seeking access to leisure facilities.

According to official figures, 2.4 million tourists visit Cyprus every year.
