Cyprus government commits to boosting tourism

The government in Cyprus has reiterated its commitment to boosting the island's tourist sector.

President Tassos Papadopoulos said that promoting the country as an attractive holiday destination was one of the government's main priorities, reports the Financial Mirror.

Speaking at a meeting of the Cyprus Tourism Business Association, he stated that moves to increase the number of foreign visitors were already underway.

For example, the president highlighted the government's strategic development plan, as well as the marketing and promotional activity that is carried out overseas.

However, he called on companies and organisations across the whole holiday industry to participate in promoting Cyprus as a tourist destination.

President Papadopoulous added that the government was also investing in infrastructure and service improvements in order to enhance its appeal.

According to the Statistical Service Cystat, revenue generated by the sector went up by 5.9 per cent last year to £1.4 billion, the Financial Mirror reports.
