Cyprus sees increased tourism revenue

Cyprus's growing tourist industry is proving to be highly lucrative for its economy, new figures have revealed.

According to the Statistical Service Cystat, revenue generated by the sector went up by 5.9 per cent last year to £1.4 billion, the Financial Mirror reports.

This was partially driven by an increase in the overall number of visitors to the Mediterranean island during this period.

Figures showed that 2.4 million holidaymakers arrived in Cyprus in 2007 - 0.6 per cent more than in the previous year.

This means that rental accommodation in the country will have been in greater demand among leisure travellers, potentially benefiting many foreign investors in the Cypriot market.

The island is becoming increasingly popular among property buyers from other countries, with a recent poll by A Place in the Sun magazine naming it as one of the top ten markets with British investors.
