Demand for air travel 'on the rise'
The number of people travelling by air has gone up in the last year, new figures have revealed.
According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), demand for flights in November 2007 was 9.3% higher than it had been a year earlier.
The annual rate of increase is also up on the figure for October, during which a 7.7% rate of growth was recorded.
Different parts of the world were found to have performed strongly during this period, with Asia Pacific, North America and Europe all seeing what IATA described as "robust growth".
The organisation added that there was no sign of demand for flying abroad getting weaker, despite the impact of global economic problems.
This is likely to be welcomed by tourism industry officials in the most popular holiday destinations, as it shows that crises such as the global credit crunch are not severely affecting consumer confidence.
Meanwhile, several airports in the UK have announced that they are relaxing rules concerning taking hand luggage onto planes.
