Dragon reveals secrets of French property investment

Thorough research is the key to a successful property investment in France, according to celebrity businessman James Caan.

Speaking to the Telegraph this week, the Dragons' Den star revealed that a property he purchased in southern France for £600,000 eight years ago is now worth £2.4 million.

Caan claimed that the secret to such a handsome return on investment is building up a nuanced understanding of the location and market through careful research.

"There are so many fabulous spots on the Cote d'Azur, but you have to understand the location, down to knowing how values differ from one part of the street to the other," the entrepreneur said.

Caan explained that he choose to invest in France because it is "so quick to fly there for weekends".

With an estimated wealth of £73 million, the 48-year-old joined popular BBC Two show Dragons' Den for the fifth series in October 2007.
