'Dramatic' increase in expat numbers in Turkey
A Turkish newspaper has stated that the number of foreign nationals living in the country has risen "dramatically" in recent years.
Today's Zaman said areas such as Istanbul had become highly popular locations among those who were interested in living abroad.
The publication added that the influx of people from other countries had mainly taken place during the last ten years, as expatriates had been "few and far between" before this period.
Kalkan and Alanya were also highlighted as popular areas among foreign nationals, as well as Mughla and Fethiye.
The newspaper went on to describe the positive impacts on the local economy, such as the growth in the construction sector.
"Anyone working in any of the industries linked to property purchase will have made rich pickings over the last 5 years," it commented.
The newspaper recently cited figures from the Turkish Land Registry Directorate showing that 68,419 people from overseas had bought a house in the country.
