Dubai buyers reassured about visas
Anyone who buys a freehold property in Dubai is entitled to a residence visa, a government official has said.
The issue of residency has been the subject of some confusion among people planning to buy property in the United Arab Emirates, reports Gulf News.
Omar Mattar Bin Mizaina of the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD) has now moved to clarify the situation.
He explained that employers can sponsor visas for people moving to the area, but that developers are also able to support residence visa applications for those purchasing a property in the emirate.
Initially such permits are valid for between one and three years, but Mr Bin Mizaina explained: "As long as you own a property, you will have a residency visa."
Gulf News added that this clarification means workers who own property in Dubai need not fear being forced to leave if they lose their job.
The Khaleej Times recently reported that DNRD is planning to increase fees for visit visas in the near future.
