Dubai's status on world tourism map 'is growing'
Dubai is garnering an increasing amount of respect as a on the list of the world's prime tourist destinations, according to new claims from an official.
The United Arab Emirates city has ambitious plans to establish itself as a primary world financial centre, as well as a top tourist destination.
And with no less than three cruise liners docked in Dubai's advanced cruise terminal earlier this week, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing claimed that this demonstrates the progress the city has made.
Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, director of Dubai Cruise Terminal, explained that the city is becoming an increasing popular cruise destination.
"The arrival of more and more cruise ships speaks volumes about the status that Dubai now enjoys on the world cruise tourism map," he remarked.
In related news, Dubai intends to construct the world's first 'green' skyscraper that will be independent of any external sources of electricity, the DPA news agency reports.
Utilising wind turbines and solar panels, the 312m skyscraper will create more energy than it consumes.
