Dubrovnik 'represents an ideal mix of Tuscany and Provence'

Dubrovnik represents an ideal mix of the best qualities of Tuscany and Provence, according to a local tourist official.

Denis Ivosevic, regional tourism minister, has said that the area is marketing itself as an alternative to classic European destinations to capitalise its image as an top investment and holiday location.

Real newspaper attributes the buildings of British architect Robert Dallas, who uses reclaimed materials to produce desirable properties in Provence, as a major influence for construction in Dubrovnik, adding to the area's sense of style, the International Herald Tribune reports.

The newspaper quotes Mr Ivosevic as saying: "Provence because it's gentle and Tuscany because it's developed a diverse type of tourism."

He concluded that although some critics say Dubrovnik's new build property rules are too restrictive, there are "certain criteria" that should be adhered to in order to ensure that the area remains attractive.

Recently, a report from Holiday Rentals revealed that Croatia is becoming an increasingly popular destination for wedding ceremonies because of its beauty and renowned value-for-money.
