Eastern European flights boost airport figures
The popularity of flights to eastern Europe has boosted passenger numbers at a UK airport, it has been revealed.
London Luton Airport stated that for the first time in its 70-year history, the number of people passing through its terminals has passed the 10 million mark.
This was partially attributed to the recent focus on emerging holiday destinations, such as Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania.
The airport is serviced by a number of low-cost airlines, which means that these countries are now highly accessible and affordable places to visit.
Commenting on the figures, marketing director Natalie Raper said: "With a key focus on offering more destinations to our passengers, London Luton Airport has seen a notable increase in passenger throughput."
She added that reaching the 10 million mark was a "fantastic milestone" for the transport hub.
Leisure travellers can currently fly to numerous eastern European destinations from Luton, including Bucharest, Transylvania, Sofia and Zagreb.
