Economic gloom not deterring holidaymakers
Consumers in the UK are continuing to book trips abroad despite ongoing financial problems, according to a holiday firm.
Barrhead Travel stated that issues such as the credit crunch and the rising cost of living have not put people off taking a break overseas.
Speaking to the Daily Record, spokesperson Bill Munro said traditional European destinations are proving to be especially popular.
This is despite the fact that the pound recently fell to a record low against the euro, which means eurozone countries can be relatively expensive places to visit.
Mr Munro commented: "Holidays tend to be the last to suffer and while costs are up in the traditional holiday hotspots, they still represent good value compared to prices here."
This comes after Kayak.co.uk stated that growing economic uncertainty is not stopping consumers from booking trips abroad.
Tourists stated that instead of depriving themselves of a trip abroad, they would attempt to offset the financial impact by cutting back elsewhere.
