Emerging markets 'are lucrative investments'

Emerging markets such as those in eastern Europe could offer potentially lucrative investment opportunities, according to experts.

World Investment Services (WIS) said that recent hotspots of activity such as Bulgaria offered lots of potential for capital growth, especially as people could enter the market at relatively low prices.

The organisation added that investors could also benefit from rental income in emerging markets, as they had become popular tourist regions and had local demand for rental accommodation.

Matt Moore, spokesperson for WIS, said that various factors had made eastern European countries become popular with British buyers, such as cheap flights and a willingness to travel further afield.

He commented: "Affordable travel and a taste for more exotic holiday locations has made the world a much smaller place, with more and more overseas investment opportunities opening up."

This comes after the Mirror newspaper stated that an "increasing number" of people were choosing to buy holiday homes in "far-flung" destinations.
