European countries attract Russian tourists
Russian holidaymakers are increasingly heading to popular European tourist destinations, according to a media report.
The Sun revealed that countries such as Italy and Spain were attracting a considerable number of people from Russia.
In addition, it stated that although Turkey was still a popular location with Britons, people from the UK were now being outnumbered by Russian visitors.
The newspaper partially attributed the country's appeal to its relatively cheap prices.
Commenting on this trend, John Bevan of Lastminute.com said: "The battle for Europe's sunbeds will be more intense than ever this summer."
He added that Russians were establishing themselves as the most prominent "tourism force" across the continent.
This could be good news for overseas property investors in places such as Turkey, as its popularity with different nationalities could put rental accommodation in high demand.
ShelterOffshore.com recently predicted that its status as a major holiday destination would drive the second home market in Turkey for at least the next few years.
