European hotspots boost regional airport
The popularity of European holiday destinations has had a positive impact on a regional airport in the UK, new figures have revealed.
Statistics from Robin Hood Airport near Doncaster showed that passenger numbers at the transport hub have risen by 5.7% in the last year.
Services to Spain were found to be especially popular, along with countries in eastern Europe.
Hugh Lang from Peel Airports commented: "We're happy to report the growth in passenger throughput year on year, which demonstrates the continued impact Robin Hood Airport has on the airport region."
The facility is located in easy reach of many major towns and cities in the north of England, including Doncaster, Sheffield, Lincoln and York.
This means that the destinations serviced by the airport are highly accessible to people living in these areas.
Meanwhile, both Ryanair and easyJet have announced that the number of passengers they transported during 2008 was higher than at the same time last year.
